We are part of history

'Change has come to America'

Nov. 4: In his acceptance speech in Chicago's Grant Park, Sen. Barack Obama challenged the crowd of more than 125,000 people, saying, "if there's anybody out there who still questions... the power of our democracy, tonight is your answer."

birthday

Yesterday we celebrated Uncle Al's (my baby) Birthday with a birthday dinner and cake. We all had a really good time. My family is always fun to be with and we had a lot of laughs.

That's Al with h is funny hat!!!!

Last year for Al's birthday I bought my digital camera for the event. It took me almost a year to figure out how to use it and them upload the pictures to my computer. And even a little longer to figure out to get prints!!!

Thanks to all those I annoyed with my photo questions.

resurection

To anyone I gave an Amarillis (sp) to last year....this is a picture of mine that I put in the closet after it died last winter. I read if you put it in a dark place for the winter you can regrow it. But it had more insructions than that. So I was just going to throw it out, but said "what the heck" and watered it. Well it is growing a mile a minute!!! Now lets see if it will flower.

I had a date!!!

Yes, I was taken to the movies by these guys. We saw Beverly Hills Chihuahua. And it was a really cute show. I have to also says the kids were really cute to (or too cute?)

By the way their mom Sam(antha) paid. So thanks for a fun afternoon!!!!

give peace a chance!!

I like this button. Did you know the "peace sign" is made up of N & D in semiphore which stand for nuclear disarmament?

the pool

Here is the pool last week.

Here is a picture of the pool this week. Not a good sign is it? But I still am braving the cold water. I know the condo manager will be closing it soon.....so brrrr in I go!!!!

Carly's Feild Hockey game

On Tuesday I got to go Carly's field hockey game with Ashley.
This is a pretty poor video...but I'm still excited I can even to this.
Those are Ashely's feet and you can hear her cheering on her sister...Go Carly!!!!!

the parting glass....my favorite song

THE HIGH KINGS

After waiting months to see them, last night I finally got to see the High Kings live in concert. They are a Irish singing group that I love. And they are here is the U.S. for the first time. I went with my friend Sam(antha). And because she so talented with a camera I got all these great picture. Which I never would have gotten on my own.

There will be some videos soon...when Sam shows how to do it!!

Anyhow the boys where a great as I thought they would be.

Two of the fellows having a bit of fun dancing.
They had a wonderful female fiddler and an amazing man on the bodhran drums.
I got to get an autograph from all of them. And here I am with Finnbar Clancy himself!!!!

I had a great day with GooGoo and got home in time to see Carly and her BFF Alissa(sp?) with their new field hockey uniforms.

These two girls are just a riot together.

Are these the coolest uniforms ever?
I even found time to embarrass Ashley at her job by taking her picture in front of EVERY one. Isn't she the cutest?

basil and dying flowers

I'm still practicing with my camera. My zinnias are dying but the basil is still going strong. I just thought it made a cute shot.
The light in the window is not the sun. Just the flash that I know is not supposed
to be there.
Well, pretend it is some artsy shot of the moon rising.

Is this the end?

I think last weekend might have been the last day for the beach for me. But at least GooGoo, Alex and Dawn were there to. It was just the best summer day. And after we went to Al & Dawns for a cook out. And it was really a good night.
Some of Al's friends, who I haven't seen for a long time, were there
.
I hate to think Summer is coming to and end. I mean I REALLY hate the thought of Winter.

Lemonade Stand

My grandson Carson thought the lemonade stand looked like fun. So here is the Utah version. The sign Carson made says "free". Next year I'm going to tell him to charge for it. College is only about 13 years away. hahaha

Happy Birthday GooGoo and Ashley

On Sunday I had a small birthday dinner for GooGoo and Ashley.
This has been a busy Summer. Carly graduated from grammar school and Ashley graduated high school.
Ashely had a big party to celebrate...even though it RAINED that day.
Here they are along with Uncle Al on Sunday at my house.

zinnias

While I was in the Guilford area I saw these pretty zinnias at a roadside stand. They were $2 a bunch. Not for the whole basket, but enough to put on my coffee table at home to cheer things up.
Not that my home needs cheering up. Ever since I painted it "bright" yellow last year I call it The Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless mind!!
Last Sunday I also went to the Madison Ct ward for church. On my way in I saw a table with baskets of tomatoes. And on my way out they were still there. A woman was filling bags with them and said "take some, they are free" Someone had an abundance of them in their garden and brought some to give away at church.
I had a really nice salad that night.

Brideshead Revisited

Brideshead Revisited (2008) Poster
Last week while I was working in Guilford I went to see this movie. I know it did not get great reviews, but I really enjoyed it. Maybe I am not that sophisticated a movie critic (I actually laughed during Blades of Glory).

Now I probably will get the Evelyn Waugh book from the library because I have alot of questions about the plot. And also it is always so hard to hear what the British are saying.

little friends

I stopped by last week to visit my little friends and their lemonade stand. Quite a fancy operation if I say so. Part of the profit will go to their church.

I also got a tour of their vegetable garden and saw a really impressive tomato!!!!

Gabby's garden

Here are the sunflowers in Gabby's very "Zen" garden.

Everything is so beautiful and green at this time of year. I can't even bear to think of the F... word (FALL) haha fooled ya.

more sunflowers

Yesterday Gabby, Carly and I went to the organic Farmer's Market. It was a really nice day (when it didn't rain). We bought great fruits and vegetables than were not loaded with pesticides.

The sunflowers came to. And here is Ashley being creative with them!!!

Carly didn't seem to want her picture taken that day. She just said "talk to the hand"

roaming flowers

The sunflowers plus some zinnias found their way to the front of this old building in Trumbull. I took them with me last night to Lee and Carol's house and wanted to take their picture ........but I didn't recharge my camera!!! Still can't use to the fact that I should do that.

We went to see The Dark Knight and it was just a great movie. I'm usually not one for pyrotechnics but this so much fun. Everything blew up!!!! And Heath Ledger was as good as I heard he would be. One of the scariest bad guys ever.

Lee cooked on the grill and Carol made some delicious salads. A very nice evening. Thanks you guys.

I really can't wait to find more things to take pictures of. Maybe at the beach tomorrow with GooGoo. Watch out!!!

My friend has her version of the roaming Gnome...she uses Sponge Bob. I'm using roaming sunflowers.

Here they are outside on my patio.

Surprise!! here they are out by the pool.

This is all an excuse to fool around with my camera.

Let's see were the sunflowers will show up next.
